The Nose Tailbone is one of the many grab tricks in skate. It can be a bit confusing to get right, as there are many other tricks that have similar names: Nosebone, Tail Nosebone, Stale Nosebone, etc. Yeah, those are all different tricks that involve different inputs, so it’s easy to mix them up.
The Nose Tailbone is a grab trick where you pull the board toward your back leg as you’re grabbing the nose (front) of the deck. A Tail Nosebone, on the other hand, reverses the grab; you grab the tail with your back hand and extend your front leg forward like a Nosebone. In this guide, we’ll teach you how to do the Nose Tailbone, but we’ll also quickly look at similar tricks and their inputs.
How To Do A Nose Tailbone In Skate 4
Here are the basic steps you need to do to pull off a nose tailbone in Skate 4:
- While in the air, hold down the right stick to start a Nose Grab.
- Hold down LT/L2, then flick and hold the right stick downwards to do a Nose Tailbone
- You can hold the input slightly longer while in midair to exaggerate the tailbone tweak
- If you are in a goofy stance, you will need to hold down the right trigger instead of the left one.
For what it’s worth, it can be a bit hard to get right. Not because the input is difficult, but because you can sometimes mess up by holding down the wrong trigger or pulling the stick up instead of down. A consistent way to get used to the input is to start holding the stick down while you’re in the air, and then holding down the left trigger.
Timing matters here, too. If you initiate the trick too early, there’s a chance you’ll cancel the grab animation. Do it too late, though, and it won’t register as a tailbone (it ended up becoming a nosebone for me, even though the input for that is totally different). It’s weird at times, but one of the few quirks I found with the game.
When To Use Nose Tailbone And Best Tricks To Chain With

The Nose Tailbone works well in situations where you have room and airtime to show off some style. It’s best not to do it when you’re going way too fast, as the animation is a bit on the longer side and can leave you crashing if you don’t stop quickly. The Nose Tailbone works well for transition skating, vert sessions, and big air lines. It also mixes well with other grabs and flip tricks.
Some combos that you can try with the Nose Tailbone include:
- Ollie > Nose Tailbone > Late Kickflip/Heelflip
- Quarterpipe Air > Nose Tailbone > 180 or 360 Spin (possibly with another grab thrown in)
- Manual > Boneless > Nose Tailbone off a ledge
As for some of the other modified grab tricks similar to the Nose Tailbone, here are their inputs:
- Nosebone: Hold R2/RT + up (right stick)
- Tailbone: Hold R2/RT + down (right stick)
- Nose Tailbone: Hold R2/RT + down (right stick)
- Tail Nosebone: Hold up (right stick) in the air, then hold R2/RT while holding the right stick
- Cross Bone: Hold L2/LT + right (right stick)
- Method: Hold L2/LT + left (right stick)
Try out all these variations, and you’ll quickly build the muscle memory for each trick in no time. Once you feel you’re comfortable with these grind tricks, consider checking out our guide on how sequences work in skate. to smoothly transition from trick to trick.
