How to delete Houseparty app amid claims accounts are being hacked

It’s the go-to video chat app for many bored Brits amid the coronavirus lockdown, but this week Houseparty has been hit by claims of security issues.

Rumours indicated that Houseparty was to blame for accounts on PayPal, Netflix and Spotify getting hacked into.

Houseparty strongly denies the rumours, and tweeted that it has found ‘no evidence’ of a data breach.

A spokeswoman explained: “We've found no evidence to suggest a link between Houseparty and the compromises of other unrelated accounts.

"As a general rule, we suggest all users choose strong passwords when creating online accounts on any platform.

"Use a unique password for each account, and use a password generator or password manager to keep track of passwords, rather than using passwords that are short and simple.”

While Houseparty denies the rumours, the claims have led to surge in Brits wanting to delete their Houseparty account.

Thankfully this is very straight forward - here’s our step-by-step guide to deleting your Houseparty account.

How to delete your Houseparty account

1. Open the Houseparty app and tap the user icon in the top left corner of the screen

2, Tap the Settings icon

3. Tap Privacy

4. Tap Delete Account

5. You’ll be asked if you’re sure you want to delete your account - if you are, tap Yes

6. Enter your password

7. Tap Delete

8. Your account will then be deleted, and you can safely remove the app from your smartphone or tablet
