How to customise costumes in Marvel Rivals

Marvel Rivals costume customisation - An upper-body shot of the Magik recolour Rosy Resilience.

July 9, 2025: We've updated this guide with the new Marvel Rivals Season 3 customisation options, bringing this feature to more characters and even introducing ultimate VFX customisation.

When NetEase finally treated us to costume customisation in Marvel Rivals, it wasn't quite as extensive or intricate as many would have hoped. But since then, it's expanded significantly, with more characters available, more colours, and even ultimate ability customisation at times. That being said, its limited rollout across the roster and yet another currency added to the mix make skin customisation rather complicated.

It's important to note that NetEase had originally confirmed changes would be made to this system in Season 3, particularly regarding how you get the premium currency required, known as Unstable Molecules. While we've not had any more opportunities to get Unstable Molecules, we now have more ways to spend them, which sounds like a worse deal. Below I'll go over exactly what you need to do to customise your skins and all the costumes that currently have colour swaps available.

To customise skins, you need to find an applicable costume in either the hero gallery or the store, and click the customise button above the usual acquire or equip option. Then you just need to select an alternate colour palette, purchase it using a new premium currency called Unstable Molecules, and equip it.

You'll unlock the default colour palette whenever you purchase a skin with customisation options, but you need to buy additional colours separately. You can swap between colour palettes whenever you want by heading back to this menu if you ever change your mind.

Where it gets confusing is that only a handful of skins actually have customisation options right now, so it's easy to miss this new feature as the majority of the roster (let alone individual skins) don't actually have access to it. To check if a skin has customisation options before you buy it, look for the colour wheel icon next to it on the store page. If it also has ultimate VFX options, you'll see an ultimate ability icon here too.

While only four characters had customisable costumes when this feature was first introduced—each with only one alternate colour—it's since been expanded quite significantly. In fact, some of these costumes even had ultimate ability VFX options. Here are all the customisable costumes right now:

  • Magik: Rosy Resilience for Punkchild skin
  • Luna Snow: Plasma Pulse for Mirae 2099 skin
  • Psylocke: Phantom Purple for Vengeance skin
  • Winter Soldier: Winter's Wrath for Blood Soldier skin
  • Invisible Woman: Midnight Majesty and Dune Daisy for Malice skin
  • Jeff the Land Shark: Verdant Vortex and Blue Barrage for Sunshine Land Shark skin
  • Rocket Raccoon: Radiant Reef and Bluebell Breeze for Sunshine Raccoon skin
  • Scarlet Witch: Majestic Mauve and Neon Nimbus for Immortal Sovereign skin

Changing your costume colour won't just change your in-game model during gameplay, but also in MVP animations and emotes. Given how oddly restrictive emotes and animations can be (less so thanks to changes made in Season 3), I'm actually quite surprised to see this, even if it is just changing a suit's colour scheme.
