How to create a time paradox in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater brings back iconic villains from the original version, and killing one of them early will help you unlock an additional trophy in the game.

The villain we are talking about here is Ocelot, who has a strange and unique easter egg around him. If you go against the predicted script, the right way to deal with him is to knock him down permanently after he gets unconscious. But you can create an alternate timeline (of sorts) by dealing differently with Ocelot.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Ocelot time paradox explained

There are several bronze trophies to unlock in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. One of them is the Time Paradox trophy, which is complete as you create a time paradox. The key here is to kill Ocelot when he's unconscious in the Virtuous mission.

In the first few hours of the game, you'll find Sokolov in Rassvet. Ocelot shows up following the completion of a cutscene, where he will get knocked down. Once the cutscene is over, you'll regain control of Snake.

If you spare Ocelot at this point, you won't be able to create the time paradox. Instead, you'll have to kill him with a lethal weapon by shooting him enough times. Here's an essential tip: don't forget to save your game before killing Ocelot. This is absolutely mandatory as killing Ocelot will unlock the Time Paradox trophy, but it also ends the game.

Ocelot is meant to stay alive as he isn't supposed to die at that stage. Killing him in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater does earn you the trophy, but it also leads to Colonel Campbell telling you that you created a time paradox with your action. Once you kill Ocelot, you'll get an "Ocelot is dead" text that will transition into "Time Paradox" on your screen.

This primarily concerns Ocelot's appearance in games before the original Metal Gear Solid 3, and ending his life in the prequel will alter his appearances in the two other games. Hence, we are dealing with an alternate timeline situation, where the time paradox concept comes in.
