While trying to conquer mountains in PEAK, you'll need a lot of food because you should never climb on an empty stomach, so we're here to teach you how to cook.
There aren't any recipes, so you don't have to run around collecting different ingredients, like you need to in Monster Hunter Wilds, for example. You can just pick up random edibles and be on your way to cook them. It's not as tedious as it sounds though, because you don't need to stray off the regular path to find items to cook. Cooking also has its benefits, which we will delve into below.
Where to Cook Food in PEAK
First, you need an open flame to cook food in PEAK. These open flames aren't restricted to a specific spot in the game. So, if you see a burning piece of wood, you can cook whatever you want on it.
The biggest example is the plane crash that you spot right when the game starts. The wing of the plane is on fire, and even this counts as an open flame. So, if you want to flex your culinary skills here, you can do so. However, the best place to cook items are the campfires you get to visit while trying to scale the mountains. Not only can you revive your teammates here, but you can also cook any raw items that you have with you.

Here's how you can cook:
- Place the item you want to cook from your inventory onto your hotbar.
- Equip the item.
- When you approach an open flame with it, you will see a prompt that lets you cook. All you need to do is press the button displayed in the prompt. The default keybind is E, but may vary in case you've changed your controls.
Why Should I Cook Food in PEAK?
You don't specifically need to cook your food in PEAK. You can just consume everything raw. However, if you do manage to cook the items, you can easily improve the status effects that it gives you. For example, eating a raw coconut restores your stamina, but a cooked coconut will restore double the amount.
Some items like coconuts, eggs and honeycombs need to be prepared before you can cook them. You need to break these three items first before you can add them to an open flame to prepare a well done snack for yourself. Remember, cooking an item may improve the bonuses it gives you, but it will not take away any negative effects.
So, even if you're cooking any poisonous mushrooms you find, you will receive better buffs, but you'll still need to deal with that annoying poison meter on your bar. Additionally, PEAK also features items like energy drinks. You can consume these items as is, so you don't need to cook them. Then again, trying to cook something in a bottle would've resulted in a failed experiment anyway!
