How to complete the Paint it Black challenge in BitLife

One of BitLife's most deceptively difficult challenges, Paint it Black, has officially begun. Although it seems simple at first, some of its objectives require some in-depth knowledge of the game's socialization mechanics and job options.

BitLife's Paint it Black challenge has five objectives to complete:

You won't need any special career packs or expansions for this challenge. However, your character will need a father who stays in your life long enough to engage in an argument, and either a younger or older brother who passes before you do. There are a few strategies you can employ here, which we'll dive into later.

Be born a female in France

The first task of this challenge is to be born a female in France. You'll do this by choosing female as your starting gender when creating a new character and France as your birth country. The exact city you're born in doesn't matter as long as you live somewhere in France.

What's more important for this challenge is your family. Since we have two family-related objectives, you'll ideally want to start with a father and an older brother. Your character needs to outlive her brother and father to finish two of the challenge's tasks, so watch for this through your Relationships tab, and don't be afraid to remake characters until this happens.

Become a painter

Your next task is to become a painter. Once your character turns 18, check the full-time job list and scroll through until you see a painter role. It'll appear with a paint palette emoji next to its name. If you don't see it right away, close and reopen BitLife or age up and recheck the list.

You won't need any post-secondary education or work experience to land this job. However, having an art degree can help you narrow down your choices. Otherwise, apply for the role once you find it and pass the interview to become a painter.

Have a pet turtle named Francois

We now need to adopt and take care of a pet turtle. You can do this by heading into Activities, Pets, and Pet Store, before scrolling through your options in search of a turtle. If you don't see one in the list, age up and recheck the list or restart BitLife to refresh your options.

Turtles are typically inexpensive, making this a simple task to complete if you've worked a year or two as a painter. Once you find a turtle in the pet store, adopt it and name it Francois to knock out this task.

Argue with your father

Arguing with your father in BitLife partially relies on luck. Normally, you can argue with someone by engaging in conversations with them and having the agreement part go into the red. However, in the case of your father, your best bet is to give him gifts he dislikes until he initiates an argument.

You can do this by heading into Relationships, selecting your character's father, and giving him anything he'd dislike. This can range anywhere from lumps of coal as a free Winter-themed gift to anti-aging creams, dead flowers, and more. As long as it sounds like an unpleasant gift, he's likely to argue with your character, especially if she's an adult. Once this happens, he'll start an argument, to which you'll need to argue back to complete the task.

Mourn the death of your brother

The last objective is to mourn the death of your character's brother. There are two ways to accomplish this: wait for him to pass naturally, or end things prematurely and quickly finish the task.

If you choose to wait, you can repeatedly age up until he passes away from old age, illness, or an accident. All of these can happen randomly, but the odds are higher if he's much older than you or developed a severe condition early in his life.

Alternatively, you can do the deed yourself to eliminate him, allowing you to mourn his death that same year. If you have the Assassin's Blade item, you'll do this without facing any repercussions. Otherwise, there's a chance the police will catch you, requiring you to mourn his death after dealing with them.

Once your character becomes a painter, argues with her father, and mourns the death of her brother, you'll complete the Paint it Black challenge, rewarding you with a mystery cosmetic prize box. If you're interested in diving into more content, check out how to become a plastic surgeon in BitLife.
