Parental Dispute is one of the many new quests introduced to Palia with the expansive Elderwood update. If you’ve managed to trigger it but find yourself stuck on how to complete its requirements, we’re here to guide you through it.
As a Discovery quest, Parental Dispute aims to make you aware of four new fish that spawn in Palia’s Elderwood region. The quest triggers at random, potentially after you complete the first few main quests in Elderwood, taking you for a conversation with Einar. Upset with Hekla for having a different opinion on raising the offspring of his gillyfin companion, Einar would want you to help him “recruit” a fish who can serve as a teacher to Gil’s young.
As confusing as all that sounds, this guide is all you need to check the Parental Dispute Palia quest off your list and grab the reward for it.
Palia Parental Dispute quest guide

Since you’re here, chances are you’ve already begun the quest by speaking to Einar and learnt about his fight with Hekla in detail. Now, if you remember, in one of the conversation choices with Einar, you were asked to suggest a “more fish-appropriate” skill that Gil’s kid could learn. The choice you make in this step determines what fish you’ve to catch to complete the quest:
- If you choose Survival Skills or the green Earth symbol, you need to catch the Eleroo Eel.
- If you choose Emotional Intelligence or the blue Water symbol, you need to source an Angelfish.
- If you choose Sports or the brown Earth symbol, get a Devilfish.
- If you choose The Fandango or the yellow Air symbol, get a Midnight Floatfish.
All of these fish types are exclusive to the Elderwood region of Palia—here’s how to catch them:
Eleroo Eel
Also known as the “Elder Eel,” the Eleroo Eel can be found in the bays near Vieuxport Sea and De Mer Dock. Use a Glow Worm bait on your fishing rod to catch one of these rare fish.
Angelfish
You can find and catch an Angelfish from a pond during morning, day, or evening. Try the ponds in Red Blossom Cave, beside Lilac Cavern, and near Jenesse Pass. Make sure to use a Glow Worm bait on your fishing rod.
Devilfish
For a Devilfish, equip a normal Worm to your fishing rod and dip it in a pond during morning, evening, or night.
Midnight Floatfish
Lastly, for the Midnight Floatfish, visit the bays again and this time, with a normal Worm equipped to your fishing rod. As its name suggests, you can only find this fish during evening and night.
Remember: You don’t need to catch all of them. Just the one Einar instructs you to based on your choice. Once you have the fish you need for the quest, return to Einar and he’ll reward you with the Gil 522 decor item that you can place in your house.
