In Windrose, there are a couple of side quests you can complete while exploring. One of the early and more introductory quests is Fifteen Men on a Dead Man’s Chest, which you can pick up as soon as you spawn on the island.
Here’s a full walkthrough of the early Fifteen Men on a Dead Man’s Chest quest in Windrose.

Pick up the map

To start the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man’s Chest quest, you need to pick up a Blurry Sketch of the Island from the chest. It always spawns in the chest at the Pirate Remains POI, east of the spawn point. The chest also contains a random uncommon weapon and a Lamp, which can be useful when mining ore. After you pick up the map, the quest will start, and a marker will appear to the north of the Pirate Remains.
Discover a shovel

Before heading to the quest marker, you need a shovel. The shovel unlocks once you make a Copper Ingot from Copper Ore. Keep following the tutorial quest, build the Charcoal Kiln and a Smelting Furnace to make Copper Ingots. Copper Ingot also unlocks crafting recipes for the Saber and a Fast Travel Bell.
Once you have a Copper Ingot, craft the shovel with the following resources at the Workbench:
- Copper Ingot x3
- Wood x10
A shovel is used to change terrain. Use it to dig holes, raise the ground, flatten hills, or otherwise alter the landscape to fit your building ideas. You can also use it as a weapon, which deals damage comparable to a level one uncommon Club or Saber. Unfortunately, you can’t upgrade the shovel to deal more damage.
Dig up the chest

With the shovel, head to the quest marker. Find four skeletons and dig in the middle of them to find the chest. Interact with the chest and defeat four Drowned that spawn at the chest. You must defeat the Drowned to complete the quest. If you die or run away, the monsters reset. After killing the enemies, interact with the chest to get five Guinea, four Silver Ingots, and some XP.
