The SC Johnson Greenlist process was launched in 2001 to help the company choose better ingredients and packaging materials.
“Developing a formal raw-materials rating process seemed like an incredibly monumental and complicated task, given that we had literally tens of thousands of raw materials and components, plus hundreds of different ways we could classify them,” said Fisk Johnson, SC Johnson chairman and chief executive officer. But a team of SC Johnson scientists “took a gargantuan task and turned it into a functioning, computerised, sustainable process and programme.”
This infographic shows how SC Johnson scientists use the Greenlist process to improve formulas and packaging of products based on information about ingredients’ impact on the environment and human health.
