How to check if the Government will give you £800

People across the UK are being advised that they could be eligible to apply for an £800 'advance' from the Government.

The money is designed to help low-income families who are struggling to meet payments or pay for essentials.

The cash is available to people who are claiming Universal Credit and is known as the 'Budgeting Advance', reports North Wales Live.

The money is available to those with unexpected financial issues, such as emergency household costs or funeral costs.

It can also be used to help get a job or stay in work.

The money is effectively a loan and has to be repaid to the Department for Work and Pensions - usually by way of an amount coming out of your benefit payments.

The smallest amount you can borrow is £100, those who are single can claim £348; couples can claim £464 ad those with children can claim £812.

If you have more than £1,000 in savings you may not qualify and you have to be able to pay the money back.

You must also have been claiming Universal Credit or a legacy benefit for at least six months and you must have earned less than £2,600 (or £3,600 in a couple) in the past six months.

Further information on the Budgeting Advance can be found on the Gov. website.
