There is a flurry of different settings available to you in Skate 4. From your control preset to your Flick-It sensitivity to individual trick settings, there’s a ton you can change to customize the gameplay. However, an underrated setting in Skate 4 is your Stance, which alters which foot goes where on your board.
You have two Stance options in Skate 4, and you might be confused about what each one does in terms of how it affects your gameplay. You might also be curious how to actually change your Stance through the settings menu. For everything related to your Stance in Skate 4, check out the guide below.
Where To Change Your Stance In Skate 4
First and foremost, your Stance can be changed by going to the settings menu in Skate 4. You can access the settings menu after joining a lobby by hitting “Options” on your controller and then pressing on the cog icon in the top-right corner of the screen.
Here, go to “Settings” and then select the “Gameplay” tab. In the Gameplay tab, scroll down past the control presets until you see the option for “Default Stance.” You can switch between the two available options, which are Regular and Goofy. If you look below the picture of the controller on the right side of the screen while hovering over the Stance option, you can see a brief explanation about what the setting does.

This is the only option relating to your Stance in Skate 4. However, there is a known bug in the early access version of Skate 4 that sees the option revert to Regular after changing it to Goofy. So it’s wise to do a settings check before a session to make sure your Stance setting is still on what you set it to.
What Do The Stance Options Do In Skate 4?
Overall, your chosen Stance doesn’t have a huge impact on the gameplay in Skate 4. What your Stance does is change which foot goes first on the board. Regular has your left foot forward, while Goofy has your right foot forward.
Choosing a Stance slightly alters your camera view when riding, as the camera has to adjust for your player’s direction. Many players will likely choose whatever stance they use in real life when riding a skateboard, as that looks the most natural to them. However, if you don’t have a preferred Stance, you can choose whichever one feels more comfortable when you’re riding around in Skate 4. A lot of players will go with Goofy by default, as it turns their character’s face towards the direction of the camera when riding.
Some players will also choose their Stance based on how they like to do their ollies and other flip tricks. Your Stance doesn’t have as much of an impact on grab tricks, but simply test out some tricks in Skate 4 and see which Stance feels right to you. Then, go with that Stance 4 for the remainder of your career in San Vansterdam, as there’s no real reason to swap back and forth between the two.
