Fantasy Life, Level 5’s RPG life simulator originally on the Nintendo DS, has recently seen its sequel release on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam. In FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time, your journey in Remuria kicks off immediately with a character customization screen, but this isn’t set in stone.
Here’s everything you need to know about changing your appearance in FANTASY LIFE i.
How to change outfit in FANTASY LIFE i
Before the opening cutscene, a new game in FANTASY LIFE i brings you straight to the character creation screen. You have plenty of options to choose from, consisting of:
- Name (this is the only customizable feature that cannot be changed)
- 6 face shapes
- 18 skin tones
- 4 body types
- 48 hairstyles
- 41 hair colors
- 41 eye styles
- 30 eye colors
- 27 eyebrows
- 21 nose shapes
- 13 mouths
- 6 ears
- 36 facial features
- 12 voices
Once you’ve customized your character and selected a Life (your “class”), the Outfit Menu is unlocked. This is shown via the main menu, referred to as the Weird Pad. Select it to scroll through your equipment, outfit pieces, and accessories. You can mix and match outfit pieces, regardless of which Life you’re playing as. All of these pieces do not affect your stats. They are for cosmetic purposes only.
How to change appearance in FANTASY LIFE i

Changing your appearance in the game is just as simple as switching out outfits. It’s just not available to you at the start of the game.
While you have to stick to the character appearance you’ve set at the beginning of the game, you can change appearance during chapter three of the main story, specifically during the “Digging Up Secrets of the Past” quest.
You need to complete this quest and return to the Guild area, a place that won’t be all that interactive until you’ve completed this story mission. Once this is done, head to the Base camp. You’ll find an NPC called Boyle at the top left. Interact with him and you’ll discover the following options:
- Party Formation
- Islander Management
- Change Appearance
- Change Island Name
Select “Change Appearance” to bring up the original character customization screen. You can then play around with all customizable features, excluding your name. This costs absolutely nothing, regardless of the amount of times you select it.
