How to buy a pint for NHS key worker or local hero during coronavirus crisis

A brewery near Bristol has come up with a way for people to buy a pint to thank NHS key workers and other local heroes in the city.

Bath Ales, in Warmley, has launched Pints for Heroes - an initiative to buy a drink for someone who deserves it.

Pint vouchers can be bought online and redeemed as soon as the government's social distancing restrictions have been lifted and pubs open back up.

Once bought, the brewery will email the recipient a single-use voucher, with details on how and where they can redeem the pint. This then needs to be used within three months of pubs reopening.

Vouchers can be used in any Bath Ales or St Austell Brewery-managed pubs, including The Wellington in Horfield, The Taproom at Hare Brewery in Warmley, and Graze in Bath.

Piers Thompson of Bath Ales and St Austell Brewery said: “Right now, there are people across communities large and small doing their bit in the fight against Covid-19; from our incredible NHS staff, volunteers and carers, supermarket and production workers, delivery drivers – and hundreds of heroes in-between.

“We’ve created this pint-gifting scheme to give people the opportunity to say thank you to the coronavirus heroes in their community, for their incredible work."

For every pint bought, St Austell Brewery’s Charitable Trust – of which Bath Ales is part - will donate £4.50 to NHS Charities Together.

If pint vouchers aren’t redeemed within three months, Bath Ales says it will donate 100 per cent of the unclaimed pint cost to charity.

Piers added: “We’re delighted to say that our charitable trust will be matching the cost of every pint bought, and donating to NHS Charities Together which represents, supports and champions the work of the NHS’ official charities.”

To thank a hero, people can visit Bath Ales’ online shop, add a ‘hero pint’ to their basket and draft a short message for their nominee.
