How to beat the White House spin - walk away!

A veteran Washington Post reporter has come up with a radical proposal to combat what he sees as White House propaganda. Don't cover any statements made by the president or any other government official that are designed solely as a public relations tool, advises Walter Pincus, who reports on national security issues for the Post. After outlining the administration's strategy to set the news agenda and the tactical PR gimmicks it regularly adopts, Pincus calls on journalists to show "a new kind of courage" by rejecting all news management techniques.
