If your goal for the new year is to become a member of the upper class, Tatler has revealed all of the society dos and don'ts for 2019.
The British society magazine released its new tongue-in-cheek list of guidelines for those looking to embrace the height of class - and some of suggestions are quite surprising.
According to Tatler, to be a member of the 'U' (upper class) or non-U, one should look at all aspects of their life - as class is dependent on everything from what you drink to how you engage in conversation.
With requirements of “loving your parents,” “having a job,” “reading books,” and “asking questions during a conversation,” it appears being a well-rounded person is the key to being upper class.
The guide also suggests such that things as “gout” - likely triggered by a diet of rich foods - having a driver, and taking anti-anxiety medication Xanax as being characteristics of a higher class.
As for what makes one non-upper class, Tatler has bad news for fans of white wine - as most are “non-U.”
Additionally, those looking to elevate their position in society should consider forgoing mouthwash, Facebook, and all of France - except for Paris.
Tatler also acknowledged the importance of healthy relationships. In addition to including faithfulness on the list of dos, the society bible denounced trophy spouses as being non-upper class.
If you do plan to follow Tatler’s advice in a quest to rise in the society ranks, remember to be wary of not indicating a desire to do so - as both social climbing and the word “posh” are signs someone is not upper class.
