How to apply for your student loan in Scotland

With many school kids finding out their exam results this morning, many will be looking to the future.

If you're going on to university or college in the new term you could be eligible to apply for a student loan through Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).

A student loan is money you can borrow to help pay for your living cost while you study.

However, you will have to pay it back when you complete your course.

Whether you can get a student loan depends on a few things; the university or college you are applying to, the course you are doing, and your age.

You must be doing a higher education course and be under 60 on the first day of your academic year.

How much you are eligible for depends on your household income, if your income (yours or your parents) is more than £34,000 you will only be able to get a loan of up to £4,750.

If your household income is under this amount you will have to supply evidence to SAAS, and you could be awarded more.

To apply you will need your National Insurance Number, bank account details and the course name and university you're applying for.

If you need ore support you may also wish to consider a student bursary. Find out about all your options here.
