How Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea squad looks if all out of contract players leave in the summer

Chelsea face losing up to three players this summer with contracts coming to an end.

The Blues strengthened significantly last summer with more than £200million spent, and they are expected to spend heavily again ahead of next season as Thomas Tuchel looks to put his own stamp on his new squad, with the help of Marina Granovskaia.

Given the level of squad Chelsea put together ahead of this season, this summer's spending should be about fine-tuning, but Tuchel could also find himself plugging some gaps.

And that's because the German head coach faces losing three players due to contract expiry.

What should Chelsea do about Kepa?

The first of those players is veteran centre-back Thiago Silva, who has been excellent since his signing from PSG for free last summer.

Though, it is unlikely the Brazilian will be allowed to leave with Chelsea having the option to extend his contract for a further year.

But things are a lot less clear with striker Olivier Giroud, who could well opt to leave due to a lack of game time, or at least compared to his expectations.

At the age of 34, Giroud wants to finish his career playing regularly, and he has shown he still has the ability to play at the top level with nine goals in 20 appearances across all competitions this season, many of which have come off the bench.

Giroud could well look elsewhere, and he could be joined by third-choice goalkeeper Willy Caballero, who has made just two appearances this season.

The only factor could be Chelsea allowing Kepa to leave, perhaps handing Caballero the number two role, one he might accept, but at this point, it seems more likely the Blues add another goalkeeper with Edouard Mendy becoming number two.

With that in mind, Tuchel could have at least two more international spots to fill ahead of next season, and that will be music to the ears of Chelsea fans with the likes of Erling Haaland and Dayot Upamecano linked.

The Blues already have international spots available with only 20 senior players named in their 25-man Premier League squad, each team allowed up to 17 international players, a quota the West London club haven't filled this time around.

Kai Havertz will add to the international total next season, unlike this term, turning 22 ahead of next season, but either way, with the potential departures of Giroud and Caballero, Tuchel should have more spaces to work with ahead of 2021/22 campaign.
