NOIDA: A 14-year-old girl from a slum in Noida earned the police’s praise after she brought home a two-year-old boy she found loitering on the streets alone.
The girl, who kept asking passersby if the child belonged to them, did not leave him alone on the streets at night but brought him home.
Following CCTV clues, when a police team reached the girl’s home in Gijhore village, she was found patting the child on the back and trying to put him to sleep.
Around 9.30pm on Wednesday, the child’s parents approached the cops in Sector 24 and reported that their son was missing.
“Two teams were formed and a search operation was launched under the supervision of ACP (Noida 2) Rajneesh Verma. One team analysed CCTV footage of the area while the other looked for the kid on the road. We kept asking locals and passersby, but to no avail,” said Rajesh S, the deputy commissioner of police.
It was around 1am that the police team scanning CCTV footage spotted the boy walking on the streets alone.
“A team was immediately sent to the area, but the child could not be found. The police personnel asked around and reached the slum. There, they found the girl, Kashish Kumari, trying to put the child to sleep,” said Verma.
The daughter of a rickshaw-puller, Kashish was later seen in CCTV clips asking people around if they knew the child. When she did not get any answers, she brought the kid home.
“Her presence of mind helped us find the child and reunite him with his family. It was around midnight that Kashish found the child loitering on the streets. She showed maturity and did not leave him alone,” Verma stated.
Police commissioner Alok Singh has announced a special reward for Kashish, a Class 10 student of a government school.
The police team involved in the search was given a Rs 25,000 cash award.
