How this Clevedon tree is giving people something to smile about during coronavirus outbreak

With everything going on in the world at the moment, we could all do with something to smile about, and one Clevedon mum has provided it.

Den Richardson has given the pine tree in the front garden of her home, at Streamside in the seaside town, something of a new look.

The tree, shaped as a ball, has been given its own mask – a necessary accessory for many as the world battles with the coronavirus infection.

Den, 52, has lived at the property for 20 years with her husband Dominic and son Dane.

And she is known for decorating her tree.

At Christmas it is festooned in lights and at Halloween the eyes – created out of beachballs – are given a blooded look with red paint.

Den made the mask out of one of her old white shirts.

“The eyes are made of beachballs,” she said. “They often blow out but at least people know where to bring them back to.”

As well as her ‘coronavirus’ tree, Den has also put blue lights on her front fence in support of NHS workers.

“It’s a tough time for everyone at the moment,” said Den who runs a truck cleaning business with her husband.

“And we wanted to give people a reason to smile.

“After all, humour is most definetly the best medicine.”
