With the start of the New Year and a new decade, social media is full of photos showing how people and places have changed over the last 10 years.
Here, we have rounded up pictures of some of our region's well-known sites to see just how they have changed.
Our 10-year challenge includes the Spanish City Dome in Whitley Bay, the old Odeon cinema in Newcastle giving way to Stack and a new look Central Station.
Look down the list, and you might agree that the North East has transformed quite a lot.
Spanish City, Whitley Bay

The Grade-II listed Spanish City Dome was closed for years before it was restored and finally opened to the public in July 2018.
It now has a fine dining seafood restaurant, champagne bar, a tearoom, gift shop, micropub, fish and chip restaurant and ice-cream parlour as well as space for conferences and private functions.
Stack, Newcastle
The whole Pilgrim Street area in Newcastle has been transformed over the years and is set to be redeveloped further with more plans in the pipeline.
There used to be an Odeon cinema on Pilgrim Street, which was demolished.
The shipping container village, Stack, has taken up a corner plot now.

By the River Brew Co
At one time, there wasn't much to see under the Tyne Bridge on the Gateshead side of the river.
Now it is home to By The River Brew Co - a series of shipping containers offering food and drink.

Whitley Bay Promenade
The Northern Promenade in Whitley Bay was given a major revamp in 2018.
The stretch between Watts Slope and the Rendezvous Cafe was restored as part of North Tyneside Council's seafront regeneration plan.
A number of improvements were made such as installing new eye-catching surfacing, sea wall copings, railings, shelters, seating and lighting. It looks vastly different than it was a decade ago.

Central Station

Newcastle's railway station has also had a makeover.
It looked quite different 10 years ago.
In 2013, plans were announced to create "an impressive new entrance to the city".
The old "gloomy" entrance to Central station was transformed.

Bigg Market

The famous Bigg Market has also been given a facelift.
The new public areas include a series of levelled terraces, street furniture, greenery and an improved lighting scheme.

But it still remains a bustling area at the heart of Newcastle city centre.
It is often known as the party central of the city and attracts visitors from around the UK.
The area has more than 20 bars many with late licences, and a range of restaurants.
