How the trade for Jordan Howard impacts Carson Wentz, the Eagles offense

The Chicago Bears finally moved on from Jordan Howard, and Howie Roseman was there waiting to scoop up the talented running back, bringing him to his new home in Philadelphia. The Bears shipped the running back to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a conditional 2020 draft pick on Thursday night, the Eagles announced.

Howard was the odd man out, as Tarik Cohen took on a larger role for Chicago in first-year coach Matt Nagy’s offense. In 2018, Howard saw a dip in production as he totaled 935 rushing yards and 3.7 yards per carry. Howard, just 24, has averaged 1,123 yards, 8 TDs and 24 catches in three NFL seasons with a 4.3 per-carry average. The addition of Howard greatly takes pressure off of Carson Wentz, who’ll now have another problem solver, when he can’t check down to Zach Ertz.

The Eagles addition of Jordan Howard gives them their primary 1st and 2nd down RB going forward, with Darren Sproles handling the third down duties if he returns. The committee portion of the running back club comes from Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement, and Josh Adams competing for backup roles. For the Eagles, they now have as talented an offense as any in the league and one that player-for-player, can match anyone in the skill position categories.

QB – Carson Wentz
RB – Jordan Howard
WR – Alshon Jeffery
WR – DeSean Jackson
WR – Nelson Agholor
TE – Zach Ertz
TE – Dallas Goedert

The 24 years old Howard gained 3,370 yards (third in the NFL since 2016) and scored 24 rushing touchdowns (sixth in NFL over that span) in his three seasons with the Bears, and immediately makes the Eagles Super Bowl contenders once again.
