Tottenham Hotspur caretaker boss Ryan Mason made a winning start to life in charge last night, watching his Spurs side come from behind to beat Southampton 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Danny Ings, who has been linked with a move to Spurs in the past, headed the Saints in front on the half hour mark, meaning the home side needed to pull something out of the bag if they were to keep their top-four ambitions alive.
After the half time interval, Spurs were much improved and got themselves back on level terms when former Southampton star Gareth Bale netted his 11th goal of the campaign in all competitions.
Although Spurs were to see a Son Heung-min strike ruled out by VAR with 16 minutes remaining, the South Korean star, who was without partner in crime Harry Kane through injury, was not to be denied. The attacking starlet netted a 90th minute winner from the penalty spot, ensuring Mason got off to the ideal start.
Reviewing his side's showing after his first game at the helm, Mason, speaking in his post-match press conference, said: "First of all, the feeling is a massive relief. It's been a whirlwind the last two or three days but thankfully we got the win and most importantly I felt second half we were outstanding.
"The performance, the commitment, the energy was brilliant because I thought in the first half we found it very difficult. It was quite tough to get out and they were very good.
"They created some chances. Hugo [Lloris] pulled off two world class saves for us but I thought as the game wore on we gained control of it and I thought there was only one team that was going to win the match."
As well as Mason being a happy man at the full time whistle, every member of the squad was also delighted, as the win meant Spurs moved to within just two points of the top-four.
With everything to play for between now and the end of the campaign, plus the small matter of a Carabao Cup final to contest against Manchester City on Sunday at Wembley, Spurs' players reacted well to last night's win. Here, football.london has taken a close look at how they reacted following last night's triumph over the Saints.
Following Sunday's Wembley showdown with City, who defeated Aston Villa 2-1 at Villa Park last night, Spurs will resume their Premier League campaign against Sheffield United on May 2.
After the clash with the Blades, Mason will take his team to Elland Road to face Leeds United on May 8. Spurs' last three Premier League games consist of clashes with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and a final day tussle with Leicester City.
