The Oakland A’s had hoped that 2018 first-round pick Kyler Murray would report to spring training, but that’s clearly not going to happen.
Murray is choosing football.
The Heisman Trophy winner announced Monday that he will pursue a career as an NFL quarterback over playing baseball for the A’s.
Murray is a projected first-round pick in April’s draft and will almost certainly become the first athlete to be drafted in the first round of both the NFL and MLB.
The former Oklahoma quarterback had been leaning towards football, but his announcement — which came right after A’s exec Billy Beane said no decision had been made — got the sports world buzzing.
