How the rest of the world is dealing with Covid from lockdown refusals to rapid death spikes

As Ireland's harsh lockdown finally appears to be ending, there are many countries who will be staring at us in jealousy.

Globally, we are approaching 150 million total Covid cases with a grim milestone of three million deaths from the virus being passed recently.

However, there are some bright spots around the globe as some countries have almost squashed Covid completely.

Here are some of the highs and lows.

India

India is rapidly approaching the horrific milestone of 500,000 cases in a single day.

Yesterday, the number of new cases rose to 352,991.

Hospitals are too full, with no room for patients and no supplies left or either oxygen or beds.

It's led the EU, the US and Ireland to pledge to send help to the Asian nation.

In the last seven days, they've reported 1.6 million new cases of the virus - the highest in the world by a considerable distance.

The UK

The Brits have started to vaccinate those in their 30's with their rollout going spectacularly well.

Ironically, this is due to Brexit allowing them to purchase jabs as they saw fit, as opposed to waiting with the rest of the EU bloc.

However, Prime Minister Boris Johnson is facing heavy criticism for refurbishing his Downing Street flat and a quote about another potential lockdown, with the Daily Mail reporting that he said "No more ****ing lockdowns — let the bodies pile high in their thousands."

The USA

Joe Biden promised that in his first 100 days in office, he would have 100 million American citizens vaccinated.

He surpassed that with time to spare.

He then doubled it to 200 million.

And he surpassed that.

At the current pace of vaccine administration, the U.S. would be able to fully vaccinate the majority of its population by August.

However, with some states having reopened fully, the virus is still raging - 569,770 have lost their lives to Covid-19 in America and that is the worst death rate on the planet.

Brazil

Brazil continues to struggle in its' battle with the coronavirus.

It sits only behind India for case totals in the last week, with 367,092.

However, President Jair Bolsonaro continues to oppose any lockdown measures to curb the outbreak.

Bolsonaro says that the damage to the economy would be worse than the effects of the virus itself, and has tried to reverse some of the restrictions imposed by local authorities in the courts.

Israel

Israel has been the global leader in vaccinating its population against COVID-19.

More than half of the Israeli population has been at least partially vaccinated.

Shopping centres and restaurants as well as the majority of other public services have reopened as a result.
