How the real star of the Grammys was Lizzo’s flute

Forget the night’s big winner Billie Eilish – the true star of last night’s Grammys was Lizzo’s flute.

Wearing a crystallized, off-the-shoulder gown by Christian Siriano, the Juice diva opened the show with a shoutout to the late Kobe Bryant followed by an exuberant mash up of “Cuz I Love You” and “Truth Hurts” alongside a troupe of ballet dancers in illuminated tutus.

Her trusty wind instrument then made a show-stopping arrival on stage by floating down from the ceiling on plexiglass.

It was a fitting entrance for Lizzo’s flute, aka Sasha, who is fast becoming a sassy star in her own right – she even has her own fan Instagram account with 322K followers and counting while North America’s largest flute store, The Flute Center of New York can thank the Lizzo effect for a reported sales spike of 30 per cent last year.

Lizzo then launched into a dazzling flute solo which brought the house down at the Staples Center. Hands down the best thing we saw on stage all night. Pure unadulterated joy.
