How the Rams’ recent moves impact the Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams have made big moves over the past 24 hours. They sent a 2021 fifth-round pick to the Cleveland Browns and received offensive guard Austin Corbett in return. They then shipped cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for linebacker Kenny Young and a fifth-round pick and traded two first-round picks (2020 and 2021) and a 2021 fourth-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for their star cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

These moves could have significant ramifications for the Seahawks.

Peters faced Seattle in Week 5 but will have to face them on the road once again this Sunday with his new team. Baltimore’s secondary looks deadly now with players like Peters, Earl Thomas and Marlon Humphrey roaming in their defensive backfield. This could prove to be a tough test for Seattle on top of having to deal with Lamar Jackson and his abilities.

Unfortunately for the Seahawks, the Rams got an upgrade at the cornerback position in Ramsey and will have to face him in Week 14 barring injury or some other issue. If they choose to sign him to a contract extension (like Ramsey demanded from Jacksonville), the Seahawks will have to deal with his shutdown abilities for years to come. The trade for Corbett should do little else than upgrade the Rams’ offensive line, but Corbett was selected with the first pick of the second round (No. 33 overall) last year, so it could bolster the position group.

These moves could have big implications for Seattle, but there is also a chance that they could backfire on Los Angeles in some way. Regardless, the Rams, who had fallen to 3-3- on the year, felt they had to make big changes to keep up in the NFC West and we’ll soon see if they pay off.
