Spurs went into the last round of fixtures knowing they needed to better Wolves' result at Stamford Bridge to qualify for Europe.
Harry Kane's early opener put them on course but Jeffrey Schlupp cancelled out the England captain's smart opener to end a run of seven straight defeats for Palace.
Despite surrendering the advantage, Tottenham sneaked into sixth with a point as Wolves suffered a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea.
It means Jose Mourinho has steered Spurs into Europe having inherited a side which was languishing in 14th with just three wins from 12 back in November.
