How the Premier League relegation situation now looks for Cardiff City, Burnley, Southampton and Brighton

Cardiff City were beaten in the most heartbreaking fashion on Sunday afternoon, with visitors Chelsea snatching three points from the jaws of defeat in the Welsh capital.

It was harsh in the extreme on Neil Warnock's men who fought valiantly and were on the receiving end of some very dubious refereeing decisions.

It completed a bad weekend for the Bluebirds in terms of the relegation picture.

So where do they now stand?

Shocking Cardiff City v Chelsea mistakes by officials leave pundits incredulous

How the table looks

The real kick in the teeth was Burnley's win over Wolves on Saturday; Warnock would have hoped that the high-flying side from the Midlands would have picked up a point at Turf Moor. Alas, the game started in the worst possible way, with the Clarets going ahead courtesy of an own goal within minutes of kick-off.

Southampton picked up three points against fellow South Coast side Brighton, at least keeping the Seagulls in the mix.

Cardiff remain five points behind the Clarets, but with just one game in hand on Sean Dyche's men.

And with Man City next, that gap isn't likely to close.
