How the Notts County players rated at Swindon Town as League Two exit was confirmed

Notts County will be playing National League football next season after their 3-1 defeat at Swindon Town confirmed their relegation from League Two.

The Magpies were safe as things stood at half-time after Kane Hemmings' penalty, coupled with a Cambridge United opener at Macclesfield Town, but two goals from the hosts through Kaiyne Woolery and a Theo Robinson brace ensured Neal Ardley's side were heading for the exit door.

Here's how Leigh Curtis rated the players on a traumatic day for Notts...

Ryan Schofield: 6 - Could not do anything about either of the goals as they were two excellent finishes from both Kaiyne Woolery and Theo Robinson.

Mitch Rose: 5 - Was deployed at right-back in the absence of Matt Tootle. Was having a fine game but got into a horrible mix-up with Rob Milsom which presented Robinson with a goal.

Pierce Bird: 6 - Very rarely lost a header and made a quality last-ditch tackle in the first half. The young defender can be pleased with his performances of late.

Sam Stubbs: 6 - Was left isolated with Woolery who just had too much pace for him to deal with as he scored Swindon’s first goal.  Missed a good chance with a header.

David Vaughan: 5 - Thundered into a couple of tackles and his experience meant he would never be overawed by the occasion. Steady but not influential.

Jim O’Brien: 6 - Chased, harried and launched into challenges as if he was playing the last game of his career. Never stopped trying to break Swindon’s rhythm.

Michael Doyle: 6 - Notts County relegated from Football League after losing 3-1 at Swindon Town and again Swindon were not particularly keen on his thunderous approach. Even at 37 still has a lot to offer.

Rob Milsom: 5 - Rarely seen as an attacking threat but had his handful at left-back but a  mix-up with Rose meant that Swindon scored a second.

Shaun Brisley: 5 - Started the game fairly well, but his contribution was cut short because of a hamstring injury which meant a tactical reshuffle by Ardley.

Kane Hemmings: 7 -  On the periphery as a centre forward as not many chances came away but tucked away a high-pressure penalty with aplomb.

Craig Mackail-Smith: 8 - Tireless running in which he often chased lost causes. Won the penalty and just needed a  goal to cap off an industrious performance.

Enzio Boldewijn: (Brisley '25): 6 - His speed caused real concern and had a great chance in the second half to make it 2-0 but thundered it wide of the target.

Jon Stead (Vaughan 71): 5 - Possibly his last-ever appearance in the Football League. Showed plenty of commitment but the quality just was not there.

Not used: Alessandra, Evina, Fitzsimons, Dunn, Gomis
