How the North East looked on Bank Holiday Friday as temperatures hit 19C

Scores of people were seen out and about in the North East as warm weather hit the region.

Temperatures on Bank Holiday Friday reached 19C and many parts enjoyed plenty of sunny spells.

Some areas appeared to be busier than they have been in previous weekends during the lockdown.

At Newcastle's Quayside, there were a large number of people out for walks and bike rides.

Families were also out along the coast but the beaches were not as busy as Bank Holidays usually are.

These pictures were taken by a ChronicleLive photographer on Friday and they show what it was like in Tynemouth as well as areas along the Quayside.

Meanwhile, many chose to stay indoors and held special celebrations to mark VE Day.

Families held tea parties and children made decorations, which they put on display in their windows and around their homes.

The country remains in lockdown, however members of the public are allowed to go out in certain circumstances, including exercise and shopping for essentials.

Anyone venturing out is asked to stay two metres (6ft) away from others at all times to help reduce the spread of coronavirus.
