How the Liverpool dressing room reacted to Harvey Elliott's injury vs Leeds

Trent Alexander-Arnold has explained how securing three points against Leeds United was at the back of the minds of Liverpool's first-team players following Harvey Elliott's serious ankle injury.

Mohamed Salah and other members of the Reds' first-team were seen in distress after the 18-year-old was on the receiving end of an unfortunate incident with Leeds defender Pascal Struijk in midfield.

Elliott was stretchered off the pitch to warm applause from the home supporters and taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.

After a year that has included severe injury setbacks for the likes of Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk, this was another cruel injury that has been difficult to stomach for the Liverpool players.

Speaking after the Reds' 3-0 win, Alexander-Arnold shed light on how this left the team had quickly forgotten about earning three points in impressive style.

Asked how Elliott was doing, the Reds' right-back told BBC Sport: "Not too sure as of yet. We will probably get more news in training, once he has been assessed by the medical team.

"Three points is three points. We're happy with that, but that's at the back of our minds. Our thoughts and prayers are with Harvey and his family," added Alexander-Arnold when asked how the team reacted to this injury blow after the game.

"It's very difficult for someone so young to go through what he is right now. He will have a bit of time to get over it, get his head around what's happened and then he will be on the road to recovery and trying to get back into the team as quickly as he can."

Aside from the injury, this was a performance that will have pleased Jurgen Klopp greatly.

Liverpool are level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United, keeping up their strong start to the season.

Despite the Reds' title rivals spending big in search of success this campaign, Alexander-Arnold added that this will not take away from Liverpool's own ambitions.

"Every season, it gets harder and harder. The world-class players keep flooding in. It makes it more difficult for everyone. But we know, as a squad and a team, that we can achieve things. We've done it before and we can do it again," he said.

"It's about focusing on ourselves. Other teams will pick up points and get wins, but that's not really important for us. It's about focusing on ourselves and getting the three points when we should."
