How the Leeds United dressing room reacted to throwing away a three-goal lead against Cardiff City

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford says he and his teammates were 'distraught' at seeing a three-goal lead slip against ten-man Cardiff City.

Marcelo Bielsa's side, who began the day as Championship leaders, were 2-0 up inside eight minutes against the Bluebirds thanks to goals from Helder Costa and Patrick Bamford.

The striker added a third from the penalty spot six minutes after the break, but second half goals from Lee Tomlin, Sean Morrison and Robert Glatzel earned Neil Harris' side a share of the points, with the visitors also overcoming a red card for Morrison.

That meant Leeds dropped points for the first time in eight matches following a white-hot winning streak and Bamford admitted that the collapse was hard to take.

"As you can imagine the lads were distraught," he said following the match.

"It's the end of a long three game week so it's been a tough week but we should have won that game.

"We dominated the whole game, we knew what their threat would be and it showed in the end as well as that's how they scored their goals.

"I think everyone is disappointed but it just shows that we are not the finished article yet. We know that we have still got a lot of work to do.

"One point is better than none but it still does leave a sour taste in your mouth."

Bamford also admitted that the draw felt like a defeat.

"If you are three goals up you should never end up losing the three points.

"It's hard to think about it and they were down to ten men when it was 3-2 as well but football is a funny game.

"I'm sure it's entertaining for a neutral but for us it's disappointing."

Despite dropping the two points, Leeds remain comfortably in the automatic promotion places, ten points ahead of third-placed Preston North End.

Next up for Bielsa's side is a trip to Fulham next weekend.
