How the final Championship table is expected to look as Cardiff City promotion chances soar in just 10 days and Swansea City now odds-on

Cardiff City's chances of achieving promotion have soared after a whirlwind few weeks which has seen them accrue 14 points in six games.

Just a few short weeks ago, the thought of even entertaining a Bluebirds promotion this season had seemingly been flung out the window.

However, under Mick McCarthy, City are now unbeaten in six matches, winning their last four, and now occupy seventh place in the Championship table, one spot outside the play-offs.

City are hot on the heels of Bournemouth above them, however the Cherries' win over Rotherham on Wednesday night restored their six-point cushion over the Welsh capital city side.

At the top of the tree, Watford, Swansea City, Brentford and Norwich City, the division's top four teams, appear to have opened up a gap on those below them.

Norwich City, at 2/9, are the strong favourites for promotion, but both Brentford (2/5) and Swansea City (5/6), who secured a tremendous last-gasp win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night courtesy of Connor Roberts' strike, are also odds-on.

Cardiff, though, will be gunning for that final play-off spot as we enter the business end of the season.

Just 10 days ago, the Bluebirds' chances of promotion were placed at 40/1. Now, though, after wins over Rotherham, Coventry City and Luton Town, their odds have slashed by more than half to 18/1.

Cardiff currently have the shortest odds of any team currently not in the top six, alongside Barnsley, who have a game in hand on those above them, and Neil Warnock's Middlesbrough, both of whom are also priced at 18/1.

Blackburn Rovers then come after that group, slightly out at 20/1, before the odds drift to Stoke City at 33/1, Millwall at 40/1 and Wayne Rooney's resurgent Derby County at 100/1.

Currently in the play-off places, below third-placed Swansea, are Watford at 5/4, Bournemouth at 11/4 and Reading at 6/1.

At the bottom of the table, Wycombe Wanderers remain the bookies' preferred choice to drop straight back down into League One with relegation odds of 1/100.

Birmingham City at 8/11 and Sheffield Wednesday at 11/10 are the other two teams fancied for the drop as things stand.
