As part of the ongoing investigation into Fifa, President Sepp Blatter, Secretary General Jerome Valcke and Uefa President Michel Platini have all been suspended from football for 90 days by the organisation's Ethics Committee.
The swiss president is being investigated over a television rights contract he signed that was "unfavourable" to FIFA. He is also accused of making a "disloyal" payment to UEFA president and FIFA vice-president Platini, believed to be for the sum of £1.35 million.
Since BBC's Panorama broadcast an expose of Fifa and Blatter's awarding of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar respectively days later, the organisation has come under great scrutiny.
Culminating in the arrest of several Fifa officials earlier this year, the man who presided over football's governing body since 1998 has been suspended by his own ethics committee.
Along with Blatter, Michel Platini, who many expected to step into the role of President at next year's election, has also been suspended along with secretary general Jerome Valcke.
Fifa’s most Senior Vice President, the Cameroonian Issa Hayatou is expected to be installed as acting President.
In a statement issued by his lawyers, Blatter said he plans to appeal the decision made by the Ethics Committee.
Both Blatter and Platini deny any wrongdoing.
