How the Eagles trade for DeSean Jackson affects Nelson Agholor

The Philadelphia Eagles have plenty of decisions left to make after a successful start to the free agency period, with one of the biggest questions surrounding the future of Nelson Agholor. The Eagles have a decision to make on Agholor, who has a base salary of $9.387 million this season. The noise for Agholor just ratcheted up with the news that DeSean Jackson is back in Philadelphia.

The narrative around the Eagles now centers on whether or not Nelson is worth almost $10 million as a slot receiver when the club can bring Jordan Matthews back for around $2 million.

For Agholor, it’s stressful because the Eagles can cut him and owe him no further money.

Jackson and Agholor and certainly coexist in the Eagles’ offense, with Jackson taking the X or Z position on the outside with Alshon Jeffery, leaving Agholor to face the teams 3rd best cornerback as the Eagles slot wide receiver. The trade for Jackson almost certainly means the Eagles will move on from Golden Tate. Agholor could be moved or asked to take a significant pay cut.
