How the Eagles signing of OL Brett Toth will impact the 53 man roster

The Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to a three-year deal with former Army offensive tackle Brett Toth. Toth has already fulfilled his active duty commitments and will join the Eagles thanks to a special waiver from President Donald Trump.

With the signing of Toth to a three-year deal, Eagles brass certainly are enamored with his skill set and will likely use this first season as a redshirt year or learning experience.

During the 2018 NFL Combine, Toth measured out at 6-foot-6 and 291 pounds and he was projected as a late-round pick before ultimately going undrafted. With Toth in the fold, what does the signing mean for the rest of the Eagles offensive line depth chart?

Currently, the Eagles Jason Peters, Lane Johnson, Brandon Brooks, Isaac Seumalo and Jason Kelce as starters. Halapoulivaati Vaitai, first-round pick Andre Dillard, and Jordan Mailata are also locked to make the roster. With eight offensive linemen accounted for and the Eagles expected to keep 10, Toth would make number nine, setting up a battle for one final roster spot between the veteran Stefen Wisniewski, 2018 draft pick Matt Pryor and undrafted 2019 rookies Nate Herbig and Sua Opeta for the final roster spots.

Wisniewski and Pryor have both struggled at times this preseason and both have had multiple opportunities to be on the roster and make the team in previous years. Toth won’t have a guaranteed spot on the roster, but it’s hard to see the Eagles going through the who waiver process, just to cut him in two weeks.
