How the Championship is predicted to finish after West Brom win but Leeds United and Bristol City slip up

Few fans would disagree that West Brom and Leeds United have been the elites sides in the Championship this season and both look well set to duke it out for the league title.

Despite a 3-3 draw against Cardiff City, having led 3-0, Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds are 10 points ahead of the best of the rest in Preston North End and what's also notable is the numbers in the losses column.

The Baggies have been beaten once, Leeds three times and beyond that it's Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Millwall with five defeats - neither of which lie in the top six.

That alone showcases the glorious inconsistency of the division with Hull City just five points adrift of Fulham in sixth place and a frenetic fixture list across Christmas sure to shake up the standings even further.

Predicting exactly who will earn a place in those golden six spots come the first week of May, 2020 is far from an exact science and you can make a case for any one of the top 14 plus Birmingham and Derby County below them competing for promotion, depending on a variety of factors.

However, renowned American statistican Nate Silver, via his FiveThirtyEight website, believes he has the most accurate model for forecasting the standings and the probability of where each team will finish.

Based on FiveThirtyEight's simulation, here is how the Championship is set to finish taking into consideration results so far and the games ahead.
