How the bookmakers see Leeds United's January transfer window panning out

Leeds United have been included in the bookmakers’ odds for signing a couple of high-profile players in the upcoming January transfer window.

Director of football Victor Orta has recently downplayed the idea of the club making any significant investments when the winter window opens shortly after Christmas.

"We have made a conservative line in the summer, we will do it in winter,” said the Spaniard recently.

“New signings need time, in January there are few options and they need to have a certain type of profile.

“We need intelligence, I can say that it will be a quiet market for Leeds. We have information and ideas, but I believe little in the winter market. Only 25 per cent of winter transfers are successful, it's incredible.”

But that’s not stopped Leeds getting linked with some new recruits midway through the season, at least by SkyBet - and some of them are fanciful to say the least.

Leeds are included as one of the teams potentially in for Rangers star Alfredo Morelos, with the bookmaker offering odds of 16/1 that he moves to Elland Road.

They’re also included in the running for RB Salzburg’s rising star Erling Braut Haaland, who has been ridiculously prolific since joining the Austrian outfit this summer - although any talk of a move here would be extremely fanciful.

Son of former Leeds defender Alf-Inge Haaland, the 19-year-old was born in the city back at the turn of the century and has gone on the record in the past about supporting the club.

But he’s currently the top scorer in the Champions League with seven goals from four games, and has notched 15 times in 12 appearances in the league. A move to another Champions League club, or Manchester United, is much more likely.

Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously managed Haaland at Molde, and they’re currently the favourites to sign him in January at 2/1. Barcelona and RB Leipzig are behind them in the running at 8/1, while Leeds are further back at 20/1.

Needless to say, it's worth taking such odds with more than a pinch of salt ahead of what is expected to be a quiet window for the club.
