How Tennessee Titans can clinch No. 1 seed in Week 18

The Tennessee Titans are in a great position to secure a first-round bye going into Week 18 of the 2021 season after taking care of business with a win over the Miami Dolphins, 34-3, on Sunday.

With the victory, the Titans have finally clinched the AFC South, which is the team’s second-straight division title, a first for the franchise in the Tennessee era.

However, the Titans also moved back into the No. 1 seed in the conference thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs losing to the Cincinnati Bengals, 34-31.

So, in order for the Titans to clinch the No. 1 seed and earn that first-round bye, they simply have to beat the Houston Texans on the road in Week 18.

But, what if the Titans lose to the Texans for a second time this season? Well, they can still take the No. 1 spot but would need some help.

Tennessee would need the Chiefs (at Denver Broncos), New England Patriots (at Miami Dolphins) and Bengals (at Cleveland Browns) to lose. The Patriots and Bengals both own tie-breakers over the Titans (head-to-head and conference record, respectively).

Let’s just hope it doesn’t come down to that.

Tennessee and Houston will meet at NRG Stadium in Week 18, with kickoff set for noon CST.
