How tall do you need to be to work at Ryanair? London Stansted job posting sets out criteria

Ryanair has started the year by recruiting for new cabin crew at London Stansted airport and Edinburgh Airport.

While the job may be a dream for some travel-lovers, the criteria may exclude a lot of people for no fault of their own.

The budget airline is hosting three recruitment events this January, with 150 jobs up for grabs, based at Edinburgh Airport and London Stansted. The routes are to and from a number of European hotspots such as Spain, Italy, Ireland and Sweden.

People who want a career in the skies can go along and meet existing Ryanair cabin crew workers and learn about what is involved to see if they want to take it further. But only those of a certain height, can swim a certain distance unaided, and who have "bundles of enthusiasm", need bother turning up, as the airline has a strict list of what it is looking for.

The job advert states: "Would you like to be part of the Ryanair Groups amazing cabin crew family of 14k+ crew? If you are customer oriented, love delivering a great service & want fast track career opportunities, we would be delighted to hear from you! No experience required, just bags of enthusiasm & team spirit!

"As Europe’s largest airline carrying over 580k guests per day on over 3,300 daily flights, we are looking for the next generation of cabin crew to join us at our Edinburgh base. Flying on board Ryanair Group aircraft there are some amazing perks, including; discounted staff travel to over 230+ destinations across the Ryanair network, a fixed 5/3 roster pattern, free training & industry leading pay."

Recruits are offered £24,000 per annum in the Edinburgh roles, with benefits listed as "free training" and "free uniform for year one".

But to get a job, you will have to meet a string of requirements, which are detailed on the airline's website, including:

  • Bags of enthusiasm;
  • A customer service-oriented background such as previous experience working in a bar, restaurant or shop;
  • Unrestricted right to live and work in the UK and travel freely throughout the network, this includes pre-settled status holders;
  • You must be between 5ft 2in (157cm) and 6ft 2in (188cm) in height;
  • You must be able to swim 25 metres unaided;
  • Adaptable and happy to work a shift roster;
  • Able to speak and write in English with ease;
  • Have a passion for travelling and meeting new people.

The Ryanair advert continues: "The ideal candidate will be one who enjoys dealing with the public and has the ability to provide excellent customer service with a 'can do' attitude. It helps if you are hardworking, flexible and have an outgoing and friendly personality."
