How Strictly spoiler gets leaked and only solution to stop it 'ruining' results

Strictly Come Dancing is being plagued by an issue that is causing misery for a lot of fed-up fans - SPOILERS.

What used to be a once in a blue moon event has now become a weekly occurrence - and it's 'ruining' the show for many angry viewers.

At the end of every episode of Strictly we hear presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman telling us to "keeeeeep dancing" before they disappear from our screens.

However, no one actually leaves the studio at that point because the show carries on late into the night.

After a short break for the public to get their votes in, the judges, dancers and presenters all come back wearing different outfits so they can film the results show.

Along with the costume changes, everyone keeps referring to "last night" when they discuss the main show so they can create the illusion that it hasn't been pre-recorded.

Because it's recorded in advance, the show can be edited together to speed it up and if there are mistakes they can film the moment again, although not if they happen in the dreaded dance-off.

It works on paper, but the major issue with pre-recording the results show is that the result gets leaked to the public.

The BBC go to great lengths to stop the names of the latest pair to be booted out being leaked, but it's proving to be an impossible task.

One of their main gripes is that some spoiler sites are putting the result directly onto the #Strictly hashtag on Twitter, so they unintentionally discover who goes out before it airs on BBC One.

There is great competition between various spoiler sites to be the top dog and debate over who is the most trusted source.

Perhaps an indicator of how people now have shorter attention spans and want quick wins, these sites are becoming increasingly popular and smashing their own traffic records this year.

But it's literally spoiling the show for the many Strictly viewers who wish to watch the results dramatically unfold on their screens.

Reacting to the results being leaked online, one angry fan tweeted: "Please don’t retweet strictly spoilers. If you rt then u ruin it for ppl who don’t wanna see them. If ppl wanted to see them they would follow the account."

"There’s a historic unwritten rule with strictly where you don’t use the strictly hashtag if you’re tweeting spoilers so you don’t ruin it for those who like to wait," tweeted another.

A third fumed: "They really just need to get rid of Sunday night and do a longer live show on a Saturday......half the time some muppet on here will just spoil it all for everyone."

Interestingly, the result still managed to be leaked last year even though there was no audience in the ballroom due to Covid restrictions.

Many have pointed out that there is no longer any competition from X Factor, who were the first to implement the Sunday night results show.

One fan said: "They only started doing Sundays to rival the X Factor who did it - so now that X Factor isn't on anymore can they put the results back on Saturday again?! #Strictly"

During earlier series, Strictly went off our screens for a short break on the Saturday night before returning for the live results show.

Annoyed fans have been begging Strictly bosses to make a change so the results are no longer leaked.

The only solution to stop spoilers would be to either air the results show live as they happen on the Saturday night or get everyone back in to film it live on the Sunday.

However, Strictly bosses do not have any plans for the current system to change.

One person who is very happy about the results show being pre-recorded is Dan Walker.

The BBC Breakfast host, who is partnered up with professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova, has vowed to never work on Sundays due to his family and religious beliefs.

The pair do not rehearse their dances on a Sunday, although that is the case with most of the pros, so Dan can keep up his tradition of not working while enjoying the show from is own living room.

Speaking on Loose Women earlier this month, Dan explained why devoting a day to his faith and his family was close to his heart.

"Yeah and, can I just say thank you as people often look at that and treat it very negatively but I think you did it really sensitively," he told the Loose ladies after their discussion on the subject.

Dan continued: “The way that I look at it is I work hard six days a week and my sister’s a nurse in intensive care and she works on Sunday but it’s a choice I made a long time ago to try and set that day aside to spend that day with my family and church and doing things slightly differently."

*Strictly Come Dancing airs tonight on BBC One at 6.45pm
