How Steve Bruce’s Newcastle side could look very different at Crystal Palace

Steve Bruce is hoping for a treble boost ahead of Friday night’s clash against Crystal Palace.

The Magpies did not risk top scorer Callum Wilson in the 2-0 defeat against Chelsea at St James’ Park.

However, Wilson should be good to go for the trip to Selhurst Park - and Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie may be back in the starting line-up.

Shelvey was an unused substitute against the Blues while Ritchie just missed out.

Yet both have fully recovered from hernia and shoulder operations respectively.

Now Bruce’s side may look very different against Roy Hodgson’s Eagles.

Bruce said: “We’ve erred on the side of caution and we hope he’ll be available for us next week.

“One of the reasons why we bought him was to add some goals for us, which he’s obviously done.

“We’ve now got two or three getting back to help that situation and obviously Callum being one of them.”

In a further boost Bruce hopes that Dwight Gayle will also edge closer to fitness after a pre-season injury.
