'How someone hasn't died, I don't know' Video shows aftermath of huge multi-vehicle crash in the valleys

This shocking video footage shows the aftermath of a huge crash involving four cars on a quiet street in the Rhondda.

The accident happened on High Street in Tonyrefail at around 8.45pm on Tuesday, July 20 and led to the road being closed.

Footage taken moments after the crash shows the serious damage done to four vehicles, with large pieces of debris scattered across the road.

A red Mazda looks to have sustained the most damage in the accident, with the front of the car completely destroyed and its front bumper lying in the road, while there is also a large dent above the right rear wheel.

Walking up the road, the person filming shows a silver Vauxhall Corsa which has come off the road and had its right rear side destroyed, with one of its wheels nearly detached.

A video also shows an orange Peugeot 208 in the middle of the road with a damaged right side, detached tyre and an airbag deployed on the driver's side, while another car is parked at the side of the road with a huge dent on its left side.

A number of passers-by are also seen inspecting the damage, while the person filming is heard saying: "How someone hasn't died in that, I don't know."

Miraculously, nobody appears to have been seriously injured in the collision - but locals have said that issues on the road are becoming more frequent in the village.

Commenting on the video of the aftermath of Tuesday's accident on social media, one person said that the village had been "like Brands Hatch" in recent weeks.

"Cars travelling on Collenna Road both ways at speeds far in excess of 40 miles per hour," they said. "I have never seen so many scooters and off-road motorcycles before. The roads are lawless."

Another commented: "Nutters are driving around like this all day every day, and now when the kids are off school as well. Heard one this morning going up Trebanog towards Tonyrefail like F1."

A third said: "There are numerous collisions and speeding incidents around Tonyrefail - but the police don't seem to want to do anything and the council won't introduce traffic calming measures until 2.4 deaths occur."

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "South Wales Police attended the scene of a road traffic collision involving multiple vehicles yesterday, 21 st July 2021.

"The collision occurred on the High Street in Tonyrefail at around 8.45pm. The road was closed for a period of time."
