How social distancing could be enforced in Edinburgh pub beer gardens

Although it seems that Edinburgh's pubs aren't any closer to being opened soon, guidelines have been released on how things may look when they do.

Beer gardens could be patrolled to ensure drinkers comply with social distancing rules under plans to re-open pubs.

Customers will also be asked to order drinks on phone apps and sit at spaced-out tables, the Times reports on lockdown measures in England.

Under new Government guidelines on how the hospitality industry will operate post-lockdown, restaurants will also have smaller menus.

To stop coronavirus from spreading, staff will also no longer set tables in advance, instead, napkins and cutlery will be brought out when meals are served, while all menus will have to be disposable and used only once.

And forget all-you-can-eat, there will also be a ban on self-service buffets, and waiters will be required to wash their hands every time they serve a new table.

According to the paper, Boris Johnson will announce next week that the Government will press ahead with plans to re-open the hospitality industry in England from July 4.

It is also understood that the Prime Minister is set to relax the two-metre rule, which is seen as a barrier to some pubs and restaurants reopening.
