How security has changed at Dublin Airport for the summer with 7 key differences

With Ireland set to introduce the EU Digital Covid Certificates next month, summer travel could be saved after all.

Ireland is aiming to implement the Certs from July 19, but while people will be free to go abroad, travel will still look different for some time to come.

Safety measures have been put in place in Dublin Airport, including limited access to the terminal and reduced capacity in waiting areas and facilities.

But how should you plan ahead for security?

Dublin Airport says that the security screening process will remain the same, with a few exceptions.

These are the seven additional safety measures passengers will have to abide by during the pandemic:

Face masks

All passengers are asked to wear a face mask during their full airport journey, from arrival to their destination.

Masks will be available to buy via vending machines in the airport if a passenger is to arrive without one.

Staff

Security staff will also be required to wear masks where social distancing isn't possible.

Self scan

While it would usually be done by an airport attendant, passengers must now scan their own boarding card upon entry to the security area.

Sanitiser

Passengers are asked to use hand sanitiser when entering and exiting the security area.

Distancing

Passengers must adhere to social distancing while queuing and moving through the security area.

Floor markers have been put in place to facilitate this.

Visors

Passengers who may require a body search should know that staff will be wearing a full face visor for additional safety.

Trays

As for those trays that everything has to go into? They will be regularly sanitised by security staff members.

Passengers are also permitted to pack hand sanitisers and wipes in their hand luggage. However, liquids must be carried in line with regular restrictions, so sanitiser must be of 100ml capacity or less, and fit into a transparent and fully-closed plastic bag.

Outside of security, seats available at boarding gates have been limited to facilitate social distancing, with priority seats for passengers with reduced mobility, families with children, and pregnant women.

Seats on shuttle buses as well as toilet capacity has also been reduced to ensure a safe journey.
