How Scots can book a coronavirus test and where they are available

Scots have been urged to book a test for coronavirus within the first three days of displaying symptoms.

Guidance from the Scottish Government says that this three-day period will allow for the best chance to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to others.

NHS Scotland has listed the symptoms of the virus as a high temperature, new continuous cough and a loss of taste and smell.

Scots can book a slot to be tested at one of the designated testing sites across the country or they can request a home testing kit.

Scots can book to receive a home-testing kit or a slot at a designated testing centre (PA)

Access to either of these can be found on the UK Government website ( here ), where you will be asked to fill in an online form.

The form will request basic information such as your name and a mobile phone number - which will be used to tell you the result of your test.

People who do not have symptoms of the virus should not apply for a test.

Scots should not get a free NHS test if they’ve come to the UK from a high risk country, planning to leave the country or your employer/ school has asked you to get a test when you have no symptoms.

Scottish Government officials say that the result should be with you within 48 hours. You should self-isolate between the time you have been tested and when you receive the result.

Drive-through testing is available at:

  • Glasgow Airport
  • Edinburgh Airport
  • Aberdeen Airport
  • Prestwick Airport
  • Inverness - University of the Highlands and Islands campus
  • Dundee - Dudhope Castle

The Scottish Government says that there is a number of mobile testing units which will be located in towns across Scotland for short periods each time.
