Ryan Murphy has revealed how he convinced Macaulay Culkin to accept a role in American Horror Story during a phone conversation.

The showrunner, writer, director, and producer detailed the call in a recent interview with E! News.

Murphy, whose new show Hollywood is now streaming on Netflix, said he has “always loved” Culkin’s work.

“I loved everything that he’s done, I love the stuff he did in Home Alone, I also loved the sort of the older, more recent stuff that he did. And he hasn’t worked in a while,” Murphy said.

He then explained that Culkin agreed to speak with him on the phone, which is when Murphy pitched the American Horror Story role to him.

“[When] I cast, I never let people read things, usually. I said, ‘OK, here’s the pitch.’ And I told them the character and I told him he has crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates and does other things,” Murphy said.

“And he paused and he goes, ‘This sounds like the role I was born to play.’

“So, he signed up right then and there.”

Murphy announced in February this year that Culkin had joined the cast of American Horror Story‘s 10th season, along with Billie Lourd, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and more.
