How Romelu Lukaku spent day at Anderlecht training base as Man Utd transfer saga continues

Romelu Lukaku spent a day at Belgian side Anderlecht's training ground amid continued speculation surrounding his Man Utd future.

The 26-year-old forward has been linked with a move out of Old Trafford, with Inter Milan keen on completing a switch.

Lukaku has failed to make a single appearance during United's pre-season campaign and is said to favour a move to the Serie A.

United gave permission for the Belgian to train with his former club Anderlecht, where he started his career as an apprentice.

Journalist Kristof Terreur reported on Twitter that Lukaku had sent a message to Anderlecht under-18's boss, Mohamed Ouahbi, asking if he could train with them on Monday.

And Lukaku is said to have played a pivotal role in the session, coaching and encouraging the youth players, much to their enjoyment.

He also took one of the academy strikers to one side to go through a finishing exercise on a one-to-one basis.

Lukaku's future at United remains in the balance, with Inter believed to have returned with a £65 million bid, but the Red Devils are holding out for closer to £80 million.

Boss of the Nerrazurri, Antonio Conte, revealed he is still hopeful of getting a deal completed before the Italian window shuts on September 1.

Conte said: ""We continue to work on it in the best possible way.

"I understand there are some gaps that need to be filled but at the moment I am very hopeful that this will happen.

"At the same time I'm working with a great group of players that gives me lots of satisfaction."

The Lukaku deal is just one of a number of moves United are working on as they look to finalise their summer transfer business.

A move for Sporting Lisbon's Bruno Fernandes appears to be close, after the club reportedly entered fresh talks following discussions with the player's agent.

Fernandes is already said to have agreed terms over a switch, leaving just a fee to be agreed with Lisbon, who are demanding £65 million.

United are also chasing Tottneham's Christian Eriksen and Monaco youngster Hannibal Mejbri.
