How Rangers could line up against Alashkert as Robby McCrorie set for Europa League baptism of fire

This was always going to be a key week for Rangers but being caught up in a whirlwind without a ball even being kicked wasn't part of the plan.

With a money-spinning Europa League play-off to negotiate and a first derby of the season against Celtic soon to follow, Steven Gerrard 's squad has been rocked by positive Covid-19 tests.

Gerrard himself is among those who did not appear at Glasgow Airport on Thursday as the Premiership champions boarded a flight to Armenia.

Also absent were captain James Tavernier, Allan McGregor, Ryan Kent, Calvin Bassey, Scott Wright and John McLaughlin.

John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe are both suspended and would not have travelled anyway and Fashion Sakala is not included in the Europa League squad.

Assistant boss Gary McAllister is set to take the team on Thursday and, despite several players being ruled, can still call on a strong starting XI.

The most eye-catching inclusion looks set to be a debut for 23-year-old third-choice keeper Robby McCrorie.

Borna Barisic, absent for the weekend win over Ross County, has travelled and could slot in at left-back while Glen Kamara is back from European suspension.

Here's how Rangers could line-up against Alashkert on Thursday.

Potential line-up: McCrorie; Patterson, Goldson, Helander, Barisic; Davis, Kamara, Arfield; Aribo, Hagi, Morelos.

Potential subs: Balogun, Simpson, Kelly, Itten

Players on the B list for the Europa League squad will allow the club to fill the bench with academy players where needed, with the likes of Leon King, Alex Lowry, Cole McKinnon and Arron Lyall.

Rangers lead 1-0 from the first-leg at Ibrox thanks to a second half strike from Morelos.
