How Rangers coach Michael Beale helped Dundee in promotion bid as James McPake delivers Ibrox quip

James McPake has revealed how he sought the advice of Michael Beale ahead of Dundee's playoff success - then joked that he'd need to do the same before they played Rangers.

The Dens Park gaffer explained how he had developed a relationship with the Rangers coach after being introduced by a sports scientist who worked with both at Coventry and Liverpool.

Beale was happy to offer him coaching advice and gave him some knowledge on Kilmarnock ahead of the Premiership playoffs- as well as Hibs when Dundee faced them in the Betfred Cup.

McPake admitted his delight at being able to get the advice of the highly-rated Ibrox coach and hopes he can continue to do so moving forward as he branded him 'outstanding'.

He told PLZ Soccer: “Michael Beale has been a great help as well. He’s somebody to speak to, I’ve asked him how to beat Kilmarnock and Hibs.

“Now I’m going to need to ask him how to beat Rangers.

“He’s outstanding. I met him through Andy O’Boyle who was the sports scientist at Coventry and worked with Michael at Liverpool. He works for the Premier League now.

“He’s been great, I think he is with all young coaches and managers. To be able to go and speak to him is great but there’s loads of people who want to help you and I’ll never be afraid to ask for that help.”
